Chua Mot Cot Pagoda – Textured object for the metaverse

This is a 47 prim object I created on my stand-alone Open Simulator region, exported with the Imprudence viewer (compatible with Emerald or other viewers using the same export to XML code base).

The Chua Mot Cot pagoda, aka One Pillar Pagoda, is a real world object which I modeled in a simplified form for the metaverse (e.g., SecondLife, OSgrid, Open Simulator, others)

For additional information on the real-world object, check the wiki page: here. This object is made to a scale much larger than the Chua Mot Cot pagoda exists in real life, that is so it is more usable in the metaverse as a small home or chill spot.

You may download a zip file containing the export XML file and textures at this link: HERE –>  (pagoda_object.zip) <–

To import the object from your compatible viewer:

Step 1: Unzip the file contents somewhere on your computer,

Step 2: Login to the grid you wish to upload it to,

Step 3: In you viewer’s File menu, choose the “Import+Upload” or similar option (on most grids, the 4 textures are free uploads, and on SecondLife grid they will cost you $10 per texture to upload. Textures are a metallic cross (for the coin emblem at the roof), wood plank (used just about everywhere), stone (used for the pillar itself), and a tiled roof texture. If you have similar textures already, you may simply retexture the full-perm object as you see fit.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did in creating it!

Found a fantastic site for Opensim, SecondLife, etc. stuff!

Greetings! I run stand-alone on my MacBook Pro, and though textures (Photoshop), terrains (Backhoe), scripts, sounds, and building is easy, doing sculpties (Blender) and animations (Poser) is a mystery to me– alas there is no good way to export uploaded animations or sounds back of SL even if they are full-perm, so all that time and contribs from friends go wasted, can’t import to other grids.

Today, what a treasure it is to find TGIB with Creative Commons goodies! I was going to write the site makers and say thanks so much! It inspires me to do likewise so from now on I will export stuff and post it to my blog for others to import and use as they see fit! yay! That’s the whole point of the metaverse I think, the Lindens embraced it once but have since forgotten. Thank goodness there are other options like OSgrid, hypergrids, et al.

When I went to post a comment, I got this nasty bug back…Ah good old Captcha for wordpress having issues again!

FEHLER: Could not read CAPTCHA token file.
There is a problem with the directory /si-captcha-for-wordpress/captcha-secureimage/captcha-temp/.
The directory is not found, a permissions problem may have prevented this directory from being created. Fixing the actual problem is recommended, but you can uncheck this setting on the si captcha options page: “Use CAPTCHA without PHP session” and the captcha will work this way just fine (as long as PHP sessions are working).

But anyways that’s not the point of this post! Go therefore and checkout TGIB (Tomorrow Glares Into Beyond, in UK english and German as well..)

When you are there, read the tutorials, grab some awesome builds, textures, terrains, animations, scripts, etc. it’s all there FREE just like it should be..

Here is the URL : http://tgib.co.uk/

And from now on I will start posting more than just images to flickr, I will share the stuff I am doing on my OpenSim stand-alone simulator with the world.. teehee.. Now some builds will be just for Opensim because they contain megaprims, but others will be SL friendly and use prims that are 10m x 10m x 10m in size or less, or other attributes which the SL servers will accept..

Larger and more complex builds will of course be importable to Open Simulator (aka OpenSim here in my blog) since it doesn’t have the limitations of SL of course ;)

I get many of the textures from Spiral Graphic, they make the Genetica viewer for the Windows PC, however the textures work well in the metaverse (like SL, OSgrid, and the other massive amount of public grids out there today) soo. . . . woot woot eh?

Oh yeh..

http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/

Just go there and browse textures. The lo-res previews are 512 x 512 JPEG and you know what that means ;-) yay!

How to disappear from SL Bloodlines? (updated)

Note: Please read the entire blog post before doing any action; If you have any questions about this or suspect there may be any drama surrounding your actions, please ask me an I will be happy to explain all aspects of that as well any such Vampire Code which applies in these somewhat delicate situations!

An anonymous visitor to the site recently asked:

Hi starlord, i need information on how to help someone get removed from the [game database] as a Blood Doll?

They were concerned because, even though they hadn’t worn the Bloodlines game HUD attachment in over a month, their stats as a player of the game were still clearly visible to anyone who bothered to look.

Although the status of “Blood Doll” isn’t an official part of the game, many vampiric clans employ the status for casual players who wish to remain human however continue to enjoy some of the elements of the game.

This is true in world, in SecondLife, that a person may scan you and it will show the person what race you are (human, vampire, lycan, hybrid, etc.) and what state your blood or lumens are in (blood is shown in liters, a body may hold up to 5 liters in this case, a blood doll is like a walking 5 Liter blood tank). Lumens is another story but the stats are similar.

If you don’t have a bloodlines HUD handy and want to check the status of a player for research purposes or whatever, you may go to the slbloodlines.com website, and type the person’s SL name into the search box, and if they are a player of any kind, then they will have result pages appearing, generally vampire (a red skull logo) or lycan (an orange skull logo), or both (you may have two pages depending on your game status and how you play it).

If you have zero blood, then you are technically “destroyed” or a revenant status (which is more or less a human), however your liege and clan will still be visible to anyone who scans you, as well your soul counts up to them if they have captured it.

If you want to disappear from the game entirely, then you won’t appear in the slbloodlines.com website, and you may not be scanned via the game HUDs either, you simply cease to exist.

There are some considerations, though, to be fair.. If you are a blood doll and choose to no longer play, that is, you no longer enjoy the roleplay or service to your vampire family or for whatever reason just don’t want to, there is proper vampiric (think of it as royal) etiquette to follow:

#1 – If you have captured any souls through the course of your employment as a blood doll, it is best to let your liege (or their liege) capture them from you using a soul reaper. Though blood doll’s captured souls don’t count up to the liege, some people choose to keep them safe in their blood doll since they are not subject to the curse of losing their blood like a full vampire/lycan/hybrid/etc. would. Please transfer your souls, because the next step will effectively loose them, and that would suck (sorry, vampire pun there). If your liege can’t capture the souls or doesn’t have a soul reaper, and you know who their liege is, then you can transfer it to them.. otherwise, I am more than happy to take said souls from you, since they are going to be lost anyway LOLs..

#2 – If you have blood, let your liege drain it from you. They probably invested some linden into making you a blood doll, so letting them drain it from you is fair. They can do this either biting you or using the spike, but the best or fastest way is to simply empty yourself into one of their blood storage containers, 1 liter at a time. If they can’t walk you through this, then you can send me an IM in world and I will be happy to drain you of your blood (hehe..)

Once step #1 and #2 are done, you have done your part in fair play to be a good human, and can then release yourself with honor from the entire game. Note that it is possible to “undo” your non-status should you decide later you wish to play again.

How to do this? This is done through the garlic necklace, which is worn and then activated, thus making you invisible in the system. If someone looks at your liege’s stats it will then say [name removed] instead of your SL login name. If someone scans you with the HUD, or tries to attack you (either vamp or lycan) it will now say that you don’t wish to be bothered.

You can find garlic necklaces free at any bloodlines store (Liquid Designs) as well many newbie areas have them for free. If someone tries to sell you one, don’t buy it, since they are obviously scamming you and any object they sell you may be maliciously scripted to do who knows what! The garlic necklace has always been free. If you can’t find one, then contact Bloodlines customer support (Noire Luminos, I believe is her name, and they can send one to you in-world at no expense to you.

The garlic necklace may be used to re-activate an unseen player if they wish to continue playing at a later date. Simply, you wear the garlic necklace, click on it, and “re-activate” yourself (other than deactivating and disappearing, you can activate and thus reappear to the game status as well).

The Gaiaonline Aquarium Overseer – conspiracy theories of DEATH!

(in case you can’t tell… I am writing this tongue in cheek after frustration with the GaiaOnline “Aquarium” feature… or am I… muhahaa…)

Here’s an example: I’ve logged in faithfully for about a week, each day feeding the fish, checking the light, music, temperature, then clicking on the overseer.. The overseer always gives me a gift, usually it’s some similarly useless thing, like an octopus for my head.

Yet, slowly, my stats are improving. I have referenced the many guides on successful aquarium maintenance now, and feel confident in my ability to be a good fish keeper..

However, some days, in spite of my good habits, when I arrive online to check on things I find that, without any warning or provocation, two of my very happy healthy fish are now DEAD.

WTF?!

And this shocking news comes long before the fish’s life expectancy is due!

So goes another newish goldfish and my stable arrowfish, which may have been nearing its time yes, but, c’mon not that close and they were just fine yesterday!!

There is a thing about real world fish, you can usually tell when they get sick or are nearing death.. Not so for virtual fish? Hmm..? So suspicious! It didn’t raise any red flags initially, but after having had a few good fish simply die at random, it started to dawn on me that something sinister may be afoot!

So, like me, did you ever wonder what the overseer does all day, I mean, when you’re not around.. or, how they don’t seem to REALLY live up to their title and make tangible efforts to actually “oversee” your tank at all?

Let’s just take that thought into some consideration, and pretend a scenerio as if the overseer was an employee, let’s say it was hired help, working for your business. Their job per se was to oversee the storefront, and watch over things, like, let’s say, a fishtank.

Now let’s just say this fishtank of yours is the pride of the business, and so, it is displayed prominantly in public view. Given that, its overall health and functioning would reflect upon YOU as its owner, a living testament to how well you run your business.

Thus, after careful consideration of many applicants, you (the boss, or employer) hires the overseer as your newest employee– they come from a long line of overseers, highly recommended, and are now your skilled and entrusted worker.. After showing them around and given some basic training, you leave them alone to run the business, while you confidently go out to do your daily errands or other boss like things. As you return, you talk with your employee..

Boss: Hi, overseer!

Overseer: Hi, boss!

Boss: How’s the tank going?

Overseer: Great sir, just as you left it!

Boss: Just as I left it?

Overseer: Yes sir!

Boss: Did you feed the fish while I was out?

Overseer: Nope!

Boss: Decorate? I hear you have given out backgrounds in the past..

Overseer: Nah, I didn’t touch the background, it is as you left it! :)

Boss: Well the tank water seems to be clean, though I’ve never has issues there. I’m not sure if I keep it warm enough though, did you happen to check the temp?

Overseer: Nope!

Boss: Hmm, that Conch song has been playing for days and is getting annoying, though all the fish seem to like it. Did you try changing up the music?

Overseer: Not me, sir! :)

Boss: How about the lights- There is dark or bright lights, can you help with the lighting to match the fish’s preference?

Overseer: No, sir!

Boss: So, what DID you do all day?

Overseer: Well, I sat here, smile, and look like a pretty decoration. Sometimes I glow a little. I’m really good at sitting still, don’t you think? Wherever you put me, there I will be!

Boss: Uh, yeah, great.

Overseer: I now give you this awesome gift! Ta-daaaa! I know you are a man, but thought you would just love this green dress, woman’s top and matching shoes! Aren’t they so pretty? Teehee!

Boss: Thanks, O righteous overseer.

Overseer: :-)

Boss: Overseer?

Overseer: Yes, sir?

Boss: You’re FIREEeeeeeeeeed-duh!

Overseer: Thanks Boss! ^^

Back in the real ,
er ,
imaginary world of gaiaonline ..
I think the Overseer is ..
much less naive..
yess.. not so innocent..
I think that they lay in waiting..
waiting..
for that opportune moment..
when you turn your back,
and then..
they..
KILL YOUR FISH!
OMG!?
That’s its purpose.
Death.
Muhahahaha!

Then, once your fish is dead,
they hand it over to Barrett.
I think those two have a deal going, they do..!
Check this out..
Like, the overseer gets a commission off every fish sold, which propigates why they are able to give you “free” items every day.
Another thing..
How do Barrett and the overseer conspire to have more fish sold for Gaia cash? Simple, they KILL them from people’s tanks..! O.o. Nuuuuu! Ahhh!! Buy new fish to replace the ones that died! Hahahahaaaa!

How is it done, you may ask? How do they kill your fish? As we know, the overseer doesn’t have weapons of sorts, at least not functional ones. Like the rest of gaia items, there are only used as fashionable accessories, and have no use or power in zOMG for example.. Useless props!

But, we suspect that Overseers may have learned a magic trick, that which turns your fish into an item drop when you’re away long enough for the spell to work itself through..
Yep, that’s what I think.
The dead fish doesn’t drop an item, that poor fish *IS* the item! Omg!
When you visit your tank often enough, I would guess this negates itself so they can’t kill it, unless it dies of natural old age or whatevers.

Really! Has anyone actually EVER seen a fish DIE outright and drop the item before your eyes?! No!? And where did the body of the fish go? We never see that floaty dead fish carcass in our tank, do we? No! We don’t!

This is because it was the overseer who did it to them, oh yes!
Sneaky little bugger.
Look, is that item your fish “dropped” worth the cash price a new fish would cost? Likely? Well maybe in some rare occasion, but mostly no, you guessed it is probably just a low cost item you could buy with a few gold. Such a waste! Think about it, your poor fish, transformed into a silly item! OMG!
I’d much rather have a living fish!

So, where did the value of your fish go? Do you want to buy a fish for 50 gaia cash, feed it daily until dead, and get a sweater worth 2 gold when it goes belly up?!?

Am I just being unrealistic and cynical? Well, do the math, all that money has to go somewhere, eh? Yes, indeedy! I think I might know where it goes..

That old overseer, is it holding out on us, perhaps? Why doesn’t it always give us rare highly expensive gaiacash items? Evolving items? Pets? I haven’t seen it give anything like that. There doesn’t seem to be much incentive to maintain your aqaurium then, eh?

Of course I have an idea where your gaia money goes.. Maybe the overseer is pocketing it! Yah! Or splitting the profits with Barrett! Think about it, it’s your tank, right, but he ALWAYS knows that your fish have died wayyyy before you find out! And why doesn’t that girl ever show up, she just hangs out at the store day in and day out.. Maybe she is in on it, maybe just a happless minion of Barrett.. Perhaps just his cover? Who knows!

See? You can just imagine how far this conspiracy must go!

To prove my point, let’s review a few simple facts.. What happens when you raise or lower the temperature to extreme, does the overseer help? No, they sit and wait.

Ok, what if you don’t login and feed your fish, does the overseer help you out and watch over things? No! Of course not! It just sits and waits, the silent predator, for your fish to die.

How about if the music is wrong for your fish, or the light not optimum, does it comment, does it advise? Heck no! It will observe and wait, smiling back at you while your fish sense their impending unhappy doom.

Now, I know the days of things in my tank are numbered, right, and if the overseer was doing their job, and not just “doing a job on us” then all would be well. They would help oversee the health of your tank, but really, they just don’t care. And why fricken loamflakes.. What’s a loam anyway and how do its flakes end up to look like pellets or tiny oil barrels? Maybe they are poisoned, and that’s why your pixel fish have such short lifespans!?

Also, I think the overseer feeds off people’s fish and loamflakes itself.. For instance, if your tank is empty, then the overseer loses interest and goes to taunt others instead. Why..? Because it only goes to where there are fish to cash in on, and free grub to eat (or poison!)

Can we rid ourselves of the overseer?

No, currently, there seems no way to kill it.

Can we trap or cage the Overseer in our tank?

Hmm, no, can’t figure a way to imprison the overseer, but if there was, I just wonder what sort of treasure trove of items it would drop!?

You can remove it from your tank, even sell it perhaps in the marketplace, but we are bribed daily by it, so even though it is quite useless in other ways, the constant supply of goodies (and hopes for the occasional rare or useful item) keep us coming back.. Like an addiction this is how it ropes you in! But oh, at what price does this ultimately cost us? Hmm…

Cyber me!

I just setup a MyCyberTwin so you can chat with me even though I’m not here LOL a robot! Have fun and amuse or abuse it so it can learn lots of interesting strange and weird things from my friends and site visitors, and I promise the conversations will be kept private unless they are totally hilarious and you want to share them with the world of course.. Otherwise, it should be programmed to provide useful chats and info about starlord.net (and me, of course) so give it a go… Thanks and enjoy!
