When naming conventions provide comic relief

Adobe names their conference rooms after software project names with a mix of earlier Macromedia style names of movies and pop icons (e.g., Warhol, Tron, Kojak).

DotCom Boom-era companies often used movie names (e.g., the bygone desktop gadget pioneer DoDots used names of characters from The Matrix, Neo, Trinity, Agent Smith)

The company I work for uses DC comic book character names. It makes for some interesting emails when some of our building gets remodeled, here is a recent memo:

All Staff, We apologize to those who have scheduled the use of “Batman” for the week of April 21-25, 2008. Unfortunately, Starfire is still under construction and our Auditor’s must utilize Batman for the entire week.

Can’t wait to see what the new Starfire will look like, and hope the caped crusader gets overtime 😉
